Education Assistant (special needs)

Helena River Steiner School is a small, city-based co-educational and non-denominational school with two campuses, one in Midland and one in Hazelmere, Western Australia.

We offer a Steiner education from Kindergarten to high school, based on the nationally accredited Australian Steiner Curriculum Framework (ASCF), which is grounded in the educational insights of Rudolf Steiner. We aim to create a school where the Core Principles for Australian Steiner Schools permeate its pedagogical, physical and social fabric through the thinking, feeling and willing actions of its employees and community members.

Our ideal candidate has experience in working with children with an ASD and/or ADHD diagnosis, shows initiative, is flexible, has Trauma-Informed Practise training, can support students with a range of needs, is compassionate and firm and will be a contributing member of our community. Steiner/Waldorf training or Anthroposophical studies will be an asset.

The successful candidate will be expected to be efficient, intuitive, collaborate effectively with the teacher to deliver a consistent class culture and behaviour management approach, attend to the children’s academic, social/emotional, cultural, additional needs, prepare the materials and activities required for lessons, support the teacher however needed, attend staff meetings when required, and help organise festivals and other community events throughout the year.

A passion for Steiner education is essential, although if no formal Anthroposophical studies have been completed, we will provide ongoing in-house and external training and support.

The candidate is required to have a Working with Children Check and minimum qualification of Cert 3 in Childcare (or progressing towards).

Applications close Friday 24th May 2024.
