Central Coast Steiner School in the News

Central Coast Steiner School is helping lead an important national conversation about technology in education. This week, Principal Rosemary Michalowski was interviewed on Ben Fordham’s 2GB program, discussing the school’s approach to classroom technology – protecting the early years by delaying screens until Year 5, placing handwriting at the centre of learning, and allowing children to develop through movement, creativity and human connection.

The school was also featured in The Sydney Morning Herald, as part of a growing discussion about NSW schools that are quietly reversing course on classroom laptops and reducing screen time in the classroom.

For the 52 Steiner schools across Australia, this careful approach has always been part of our educational philosophy. We are not anti-technology – we believe technology has an important place. We are simply thoughtful about when and how it best supports children’s healthy development and learning.

As Rosemary shared during the interview, quoting a Victorian primary school principal:

“We rolled the technology out. We looked at the data—the wellbeing, the learning, the creativity—and rolled it all back in again.”
