For over 50 years, Melbourne Rudolf Steiner Seminar has been training adults in Steiner Education and anthroposophy, providing graduates with a qualification to be a classroom or teaching assistant; providing an accredited pathway toward a Bachelor of Education; and providing existing teachers with specialised knowledge, skills and resources required to teach in Steiner schools.
In 2025, we launched two new initiatives: in-school professional development courses / workshops, as well as our inaugural publication: Seminar Conversations, to further support teachers and the school communities tailored guidance and fresh perspectives (more details at the bottom of this page.)
We are a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 3948 CRICOS 01812M) approved to deliver courses to both local and international students. We offer full-time and part-time courses, online and on-campus. Details of our courses are below.
Full-time Accredited Studies
The Advanced Diploma of Rudolf Steiner Education (course code 11298NAT, CRICOS course code 118031B) provides students with strong foundation studies, Australian Steiner curriculum studies, artistic development, abundant teaching resources and materials, teaching and community building skills, with three practical placements in Steiner schools. The course is accredited by the Australian government and provides credits toward a Bachelor of Education with our university partners or the university of your choice. Part-time Professional Development Studies
Each of our part-time courses are relevant to teachers, parents, homeschoolers, and adults seeking professional and personal growth.
For qualified teachers who want to transition to teaching in Steiner schools we recommend the following in 2026:
- Primary Teaching – Years 1 to Year 6, two-year part-time online, and an optional 2-day workshop. See description below.
- Primary Maths for the Feet and Hands
- Early Childhood – one year part-time online catering to people who care for children of different age groups
- Wellbeing courses – Clay and Wellbeing, and The Art of Communications
The completion of these courses will give you a certificate of professional development hours referencing the Australian Teacher Professional Standards. Each online session is live-streamed and recorded.
The year-long part-time courses are run once a week for a 6- or7-week term, 4 terms per year. Each weekly session is 1.5 or 2 hours from 7.00pm and is recorded.
Primary Class and Intensives
Taught by highly experienced teachers with extensive anthroposophical training, the course explores human development and how it informs the foundations of the Steiner pedagogy and the Class 1 – 6 Steiner curriculum.

Primary Math for Feet and Hands
This course aims to equip teachers with visible and tactile methods for the development of primary maths, addressing the need of all children to inwardly picture number-relationships, and especially the needs of those who struggle to do this. Taught by a primary and high school maths teacher, who was also trained in Extra Lesson, Kindergarten, and dyslexia. A term 3 online course commencing 16 July. Find out more HERE.
Early Childhood
A deeper understanding of child development from birth to 7 years equips educators, playgroup leaders, parents, and other early childhood carers to create nurturing environments, daily and weekly rhythms, and age-appropriate activities for children in their vital years.

Foundations of Steiner Education I & II
Our two Foundation Courses are aimed at those with an interest in gaining an understanding of Rudolf Steiner’s teachings in relationships to Steiner education. They are highly relevant to teachers who are new to Steiner schools. Course I & II is also taught as part of the Primary part-time online courses.

Clay and Wellbeing: a Therapeutic Journey through Touch, Movement, and Creativity
Clay engages the four foundational senses, supporting will development, nervous system regulation, and embodied presence. Sessions combine hands-on clay work with reflective practice, offering tools for personal wellbeing and for use with children or groups in therapeutic and educational settings.

The Art of Communication: Communicate and Relate Professionally and Handle Conflict
This course offers new and anthroposophical insights and skills to bring to your personal and professional communication: from your own internal conversation, to speaking to individuals or to a group. Using theories, discussions, as well as meaningful artistic and reflective practices, the course will enhance our understanding of communication.

Seminar Conversations is a publication that expresses our commitment to continuing and extending conversations with many alumni over more than 50 years, and to initiate a conversation with all other Steiner teachers and educators working in Steiner Schools and Waldorf Schools across Australia and overseas.
It is our wish that this initiative might contribute to a cultural fellowship developing in Australia amongst Steiner teachers and educators. We hope that by offering fresh perspectives and insights, born of our work at the Melbourne Rudolf Steiner Seminar, we may contribute something towards deepening, extending and stimulating conversations toward Steiner / Waldorf education for now and the future.
