We are excited to announce Steiner Education Australia’s International Study Tour 2027!
The first and very successful tour in 2024 gave school leaders and teachers an inside look at Steiner education in the land of its birth and all the participants came home inspired and energised by what they experienced.
This study tour enables you to experience the Goetheanum’s World Teachers Conference 2027 with Australian colleagues, then travel by coach through the centre of Germany, before experiencing Steiner education in schools in the north, culminating in visits to Steiner/Waldorf schools in Denmark. On the way home, you will see Steiner education in an Asian setting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, providing a truly international perspective on our international education movement. Along the way you will enjoy the scenic beauties of the Rhine valley, and the historic cities of Basel, Marburg, Hamburg, Aarhus and Copenhagen.
Highlights include:
- The World Teachers Conference happens every three years and brings together between 900 and 1,000 Steiner educators from every continent to experience four days of keynotes, workshops and performances in the remarkable building that is the Goetheanum, which the Swiss Tourism website describes as “a true masterpiece of expressionist architecture”: for many people, the opportunity to meet and share with such a huge range of colleagues is as inspiring and uplifting as the formal program. Even over lunch and dinner you will hear stories from schools around the world and experience the contemporary impulse of Steiner education.
- A visit to the Stockmar factory and social enterprise near Hamburg: every Steiner school in Australia uses the Stockmar products of crayons and paints, and their production values and methods are of the highest level of sustainability and purity. But the company is also a pioneering social enterprise and their story is worth hearing. (Funfact: the founder Hans Stockmar was born in Sydney in 1890!)
- In our own regional area of South East Asia, you will visit Sasana International Waldorf School in Kuala Lumpur, founded by a graduate of the Melbourne Rudolf Steiner Seminar 18 years ago and now a thriving K-12 school with 400 students.
The tour is being organised by Gullivers Travels, a highly experienced travel company who have put together the attached brochure.
As well as professional development, the tour offers personal interest moments which are entirely optional and can be a mix of old and new. In Hamburg there will be the opportunity to visit the street and club where the Beatles began (John Lennon famously said, “I was born in Liverpool but grew up in Hamburg”) and I am negotiating with the Royal Danish Opera to see a fabulous production of Die Fledermaus in Copenhagen. These extra options are additional to the tour fee.
